How to Secure an Illinois Wesleyan University Scholarship: Application Process, Eligibility, and Deadlines

Illinois Wesleyan University (IWU) offers a variety of scholarships to support international students pursuing undergraduate degrees. To enhance your chances of securing one of these scholarships, it's essential to understand the eligibility criteria, application procedures, and deadlines.

Eligibility Criteria

  • Merit-Based Scholarships: International applicants with outstanding academic achievements and strong test scores are automatically considered upon admission.

  • President’s Scholarships: Awarded to highly qualified first-year international students demonstrating exceptional talents, interests, and academic achievements.

  • Need-Based Financial Aid: Available to international students demonstrating financial need.

Application Procedure

  1. Admission Application:

    • Application Forms: Complete either the IWU Application or the Common Application; there is no fee or preference for either.
    • Academic Records: Submit official copies of your academic records from all secondary schools and colleges attended. Transcripts should include the most recent three years of grades, be in English, and notarized.
    • English Proficiency: Provide proof of English proficiency through one of the following tests:
      • IELTS: Minimum 6.5 band score
      • TOEFL: Minimum 80 iBT
      • Duolingo English Test: Minimum score of 115
      • PTE: Minimum score of 56
    • Financial Statement: Submit the Family Financial Statement. IWU practices a need-sensitive admissions policy for international students. Upon meeting the required financial contribution of $30,000 USD per year, applications are evaluated without further consideration of ability to pay (need-blind).
    • Passport Copy: Email a photocopy of your passport in .jpg or .pdf format to international@iwu.edu.
    • Essay: Include a personal essay as part of your application.
  2. Scholarship Applications:

    • Merit-Based Scholarships: No separate application is required; all applicants are automatically considered.
    • President’s Scholarships: Submit a separate scholarship application by February 15, 2025.
    • Need-Based Financial Aid: Complete and submit the CSS PROFILE by March 1, 2025, to provide a detailed analysis of your financial resources.

Application Deadlines

  • Early Action Deadline: November 15, 2024.
  • Regular Decision Deadline: March 15, 2025.
  • President’s Scholarship Application Deadline: February 15, 2025.
  • CSS PROFILE Submission (Preferred Deadline): March 1, 2025.
