Grant for Academic Mobility in Norwegian Language and Literature for the Year 2024

Opportunity for International Students: Mobility Grant for Norwegian Language and Literature at the Norwegian Institute, Norway


The Mobility Grant for Norwegian Language and Literature is now open to international students pursuing master's or Ph.D. studies at the Norwegian Institute in Norway. This grant is specifically awarded to students from countries outside Norway who are enrolled in institutions with a department for Nordic/Scandinavian studies and have chosen Norwegian language or Norwegian literature as the topic for their dissertation. The grant is intended to support fieldwork in Norway related to the student's dissertation.

Scholarship Coverage:

The Mobility Grant for Norwegian Language and Literature provides recipients with the following benefits:

1. A new, differentiated travel grant, in addition to a grant for board and lodging.

2. Travel grant (fixed rates):

   - NOK 3,000 for travel from countries in Europe

   - NOK 4,500 for travel from St. Petersburg and Moscow in Russia

   - NOK 6,000 for travel from other cities in Russia, other Eurasia countries, and countries outside of Europe

3. Grant for board and lodging:

   - The grant follows the rates set by The Norwegian State Educational Loan Fund for basic support, amounting to NOK 11,800 per month for the academic year 2023-2024.


Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for the Mobility Grant for Norwegian Language and Literature, applicants must meet the following requirements:

- Required Language: English

- Eligible Countries: All World Countries

- The grant is awarded to master's and Ph.D. students in countries outside Norway, enrolled in institutions with a Department for Nordic/Scandinavia studies, who have chosen Norwegian language or Norwegian literature as the topic for their dissertation. The grant must be utilized for fieldwork in Norway in connection with the dissertation.

- The applications will be assessed by the Program Committee for Norwegian Studies Abroad.

- Applicants will be informed about the outcome of their application.

- Reporting: A report about the fieldwork must be submitted within one month after the fieldwork has ended. A report form will be available under “My tasks” in Espresso.


Ineligible Applicants:

- Bachelor students.

- Students who have previously received grants from Diku (SIU) for the same project with the same education level.

- Students with Norwegian citizenship, studying at the master's or Ph.D. level at an institution outside Norway.

To apply for this grant, kindly follow the outlined procedure:

2. Develop a project description and establish contact with a tutor and a higher education institution in Norway.

3. Complete the online application form in Espresso. The application may be written in either English or Norwegian.

4. Mandatory attachments include:

   - A recommendation letter from the tutor at the home institution

   - A personal invitation letter from the Norwegian institution

5. Ensure submission of the application before the annual deadline on March 25th, 2023.

6. The Programme Committee for Norwegian Studies Abroad will assess your application.

7. Applicants will be notified of the application outcome, typically around May.
