Evans Scholarship

The Evans Scholars Foundation is excited to introduce the Evans Scholarship for dedicated caddies. The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship is a comprehensive college scholarship covering full tuition and housing, renewable for a maximum of four years. To be eligible for this scholarship, candidates must exhibit a strong caddie record, excel academically, demonstrate financial need, and possess outstanding character.

This scholarship opportunity is made possible through the generous contributions of over 26,000 Evans Scholars Par Club members nationwide, who actively support the Evans Foundation. Their collective commitment enables aspiring caddies to pursue higher education and fulfill their academic and personal potential.

Evans Scholars Eligibility:

To be eligible to apply for a Chick Evans Scholarship for Caddies, all applicants must meet the following requirements: Strong caddie record: Applicants must have caddied, successfully and regularly, for a minimum of two years and are expected to caddie at their sponsoring club the year they apply for the scholarship.
Excellent academics: Applicants must have completed their junior year of high school with above a B average in college preparatory courses and are required to take the ACT.
Demonstrated financial need: Applicants must clearly have a need for financial assistance.
Outstanding character: Applicants must be outstanding in character, integrity and leadership.

Applicants are evaluated and compete on the above criteria for the limited number of Chick Evans Scholarships awarded annually.

All applicants are required to take the ACT test. The Evans Scholars Foundation ACT code is 1026.

Application Deadline:
The application and all supporting documents should be received by October 30. Priority will be given to applications submitted online on or before September 30.

Application becomes available on August 1st

Candidates get notification of the committees’ decisions around April 1st

Evans Scholars Universities:

Depending on their state, caddies may be eligible for the Chick Evans Scholars, which provides scholarships to one of the 23 listed universities. Being a part of the Evans Scholars Program involves living in an Evans Scholars House on campus. Those who wish to be Evans Scholars should apply to certain universities located in the same state they reside. For example, Illinois residents must apply to the University of Illinois, Champaign and the University of Illinois, Chicago plus three other eligible schools. Prospective students submit applications directly to the university(ies) for admissions consideration.

Those interested in the Evans Scholars program can submit their applications to the universities listed for their home state.

About the Evans Scholars Foundation:

The Evans Scholars Foundation, created in 1930 by Charles “Chick” Evans Jr., a two-time winner of the U.S. Open and the Western Open, has been going strong for 90 years. Inspiration for the foundation came when he was awarded a caddies to college scholarship, which enabled him to attend college. The late Chick Evans held that education was essential for success and worked to give deserving men and women a chance to go to college without accumulating a large debt from student loans. The majority of his winnings were used to set up the scholarship.

Initially, the scholarship was only for caddies working at the Evanston Golf Club in Illinois, but now it’s available to caddies at different clubs around the U.S. Annually, 1,000+ caddies are beneficiaries of the scholarship program and they attend universities in different parts of the US. This scholarship pays for tuition and housing in full. The organization is located in Golf, Illinois. Since its start, more than 10,000 people have graduated from the program. Caddies are chosen through a very selective process; only a small percentage of applicants get accepted for the scholarship.

Requirements once you are on a college campus:

To be a qualified Evans Scholar, students must uphold academic excellence and take part in volunteer activities and leadership roles while in college. The following are the necessary requirements:You must keep your GPA at a certain level in order to keep the scholarship.
Evans Scholars chapters at universities often hold community service events and leadership activities that one can take part in.
If possible, reside in the Evans Scholars house or with other Evans Scholars in approved dwellings.
Participate in regular chapter meetings and other activities.
Follow all of the university’s rules and regulations.
Demonstrate positive leadership and set an example for other students as a representative of the Evans Scholars program.

The Evans Scholars foundation provides scholars with various resources such as tutoring, mentoring and academic counseling to ensure they thrive both academically and socially.
